Nedral Documentation
Nedral is an AI health information assistant. This page explains what it does, where its limits are, and what happens to your data. We wrote it to be read before you rely on Nedral, not after.
- Built by Vyrion
- Text and voice
- Interface in 16 languages
- Not a medical device
Version 1.0. Last updated 30 September 2026.
What Nedral is
Nedral helps you understand health topics in plain language. You ask a question by typing or speaking, or you share a document, and Nedral explains what it can in general terms and tells you when it makes sense to see a professional.
It is meant to help you get ready for a conversation with a doctor, pharmacist or nurse. It is not a substitute for one.
Nedral is made by Vyrion and is available at nedral.com.
What it can and cannot do
Nedral can
- Explain health topics, conditions and terms in simple language
- Answer general questions about symptoms and what usually causes them
- Read a PDF, Word or text document and explain it
- Talk with you by voice and answer aloud
- Reply in the language you write in
- Suggest questions to ask your doctor
- Tell you when something may need urgent care
Nedral cannot
- Diagnose a condition
- Prescribe medicine or recommend doses
- Give a treatment plan or make treatment decisions
- Replace a doctor, pharmacist or emergency service
- See your medical records or test results unless you share them
- Monitor your heart rate, blood pressure or other vitals
- Guarantee that an answer is correct or complete
Working with files
- PDF, Word (DOCX) and plain text documents are read and explained.
- Very long documents are only partly read, roughly the first few pages.
- Scanned documents without selectable text may not be readable.
- Audio files are turned into text before Nedral answers.
- Photos and images are not analysed yet. Please do not rely on Nedral to interpret an X-ray, scan or photo.
Languages
The interface is available in English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Chinese, Persian and Bengali. Some languages are only partly translated so far. Nedral replies in the language you write in, and answer quality can vary between languages.
Guest mode
You can try the chat without an account. Guest conversations are not linked to a profile and are not kept in a chat history. Some features, such as file upload, need an account.
Intended purpose
This is the formal statement of what Nedral is designed for. It applies to the app, the website, and everything we publish about Nedral.
Nedral is a general-purpose health information assistant. It provides general, educational information about health topics and helps users understand health-related documents in plain language. It is intended for use by adults aged 18 or over, as a source of information to prepare for conversations with qualified healthcare professionals.
Nedral is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor or prevent any disease or condition, to recommend specific medications or dosages, to determine or influence treatment decisions, or to replace the judgement of a qualified healthcare professional. Nedral is not a medical device and has not been assessed, certified or cleared as one under the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR), by the US FDA, or by any other regulator.
If our intended purpose ever changes, for example toward symptom assessment or clinical decision support, we will complete the required regulatory assessment first and update this page before any such feature is offered.
Emergencies
Nedral is not an emergency service. If you or someone else has chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke, severe bleeding, a serious injury, or thoughts of harming yourself, call your local emergency number now (112 in the EU and many other countries, 911 in the US, 999 in the UK). Do not wait for an answer from Nedral.
How it works
- You send a messageType it, speak it in the voice call, or attach a document.
- Nedral receives it with recent contextYour latest messages in the same conversation are included so Nedral can follow what you are talking about.
- A language model writes the replyThe text is sent to a large language model run by our provider, Groq, together with Nedral's safety instructions: health topics only, no prescription recommendations, and clear reminders to see a professional.
- You get the answerIf you are signed in, the conversation is saved to your history. You can copy the reply, listen to it, or edit an earlier message and resend it.
Limits you should know about
- AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and it can sound confident when it is mistaken.
- Replies are not reviewed by a clinician before you see them.
- Nedral does not know your medical history unless you tell it.
- General information may not fit your situation. Always check with a professional before acting on it.
Your data and privacy
Health-related messages are sensitive, and we treat them that way. This section describes what Nedral collects, where it goes, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
| Data | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email, password | To create and secure your account. The password is stored only as a one-way hash. | When you sign up. Google sign-in shares your name and email with us. |
| Profile details | Age, gender, blood type, height, weight, country and language help personalise answers. All are optional. | When you fill in your profile. |
| Conversations | To show your chat history and give Nedral context. | When you chat while signed in. |
| Uploaded files | The text is read to answer your question. We store the file name in the conversation, not the file itself. | When you attach a file. |
| Approximate location and IP address | Country, city and region are worked out from your IP address and saved to your profile. | When you sign in. |
| Session token | Keeps you signed in on your device. | Stored in your browser until you sign out. |
Where your data is processed
| Provider | Role | Region |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database for accounts, profiles and conversations. This is the only place your data is stored long term. | Sydney, Australia |
| Render | Runs the Nedral API that receives your messages. | Provider cloud |
| Groq | Runs the language model that writes replies, and transcribes uploaded audio files. | Provider cloud |
| Vercel | Delivers the Nedral website and app. | Global network |
| Resend | Sends verification codes and account emails. | United States |
| Sign in with Google, only if you choose it. | Global |
Health data is not currently stored in the EU or Switzerland. An EU and Swiss hosting option is on our roadmap (see the compliance status below). If that matters for your use, please wait for it or contact us.
Voice
Voice calls use the speech recognition built into your browser. In some browsers, such as Chrome, your audio is processed by the browser maker's speech service under their privacy policy. Nedral receives only the resulting text. Spoken replies are generated on your device.
Your choices
- Edit or clear your profile details at any time.
- Rename or delete any conversation. Deleting a conversation removes its messages.
- Change your password inside the app.
- Delete your account from your profile. You confirm with a code sent to your email. This deactivates the account and anonymises your email address.
- To ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or complete erasure, write to support@nedral.com.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use your conversations for advertising.
- We do not share your conversations with your employer, insurer or doctor.
Security
- Traffic between your device and Nedral is encrypted with HTTPS.
- Passwords are stored as salted hashes, never in plain text.
- Sign-up, password reset and account deletion use one-time codes that expire after 10 minutes.
- Sessions use signed tokens, and sign-out removes the token from your device.
- Our database provider encrypts stored data at rest.
We have not yet had an independent security audit. It is on our roadmap, and we will say so here when it is done. If you find a vulnerability, please report it privately to support@nedral.com.
Regulatory and compliance status
We would rather show you where we are than claim more than we have earned. Nedral is not certified or cleared as a medical device, and we do not currently claim GDPR or Swiss FADP compliance. We are working toward alignment with both, and with the EU Medical Device Regulation for any future clinical use.
| Area | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Intended purpose | A written statement of what Nedral is and is not for. Under the MDR this decides whether software counts as a medical device, and in which class. | Published above |
| Medical device assessment | Formal qualification and classification of Nedral's intended purpose with a regulatory consultant experienced in the MDR. | Planned |
| Data protection impact assessment | A documented review of risks to people's data, required before large-scale processing of health data. | Planned |
| EU and Swiss hosting | Storing and processing health data in the EU or Switzerland, with the required agreements with each provider. | Planned |
| Consent flows | Separate, clear choices for health data, location, and any use of conversations to improve Nedral. | Planned |
| Data access and erasure | Self-service export of your data and complete deletion of your account. | Planned |
| Independent security review | Third-party testing of the app and API. | Planned |
| Clinical pilot | A trial with a clinic or practice to collect honest feedback before any wider launch in healthcare settings. | Looking for a partner |
If you work in healthcare or medical device regulation and would like to help with a pilot or review, we would like to hear from you at support@nedral.com.
Questions
Is Nedral a doctor?
No. Nedral is an AI assistant that provides general health information. It cannot examine you, order tests or take responsibility for your care.
Can Nedral tell me what I have?
No. It can explain what symptoms are commonly linked to and when to seek care, but it does not diagnose. Only a qualified professional who can examine you can do that.
Can it recommend a medicine or dose?
No. Nedral is instructed not to recommend prescription medicines. Ask a doctor or pharmacist, and read the leaflet that comes with your medicine.
Why does Nedral only answer health questions?
It is built for health information. If you ask about something unrelated, it will point you back to health topics.
Does Nedral remember my earlier chats?
Within a conversation, yes: it uses your recent messages for context. Signed-in users can reopen past conversations from their history. Each new chat starts fresh.
How do I delete my account?
Open your profile, choose Delete Account, and enter the code we email you. To request complete erasure of your data, contact support@nedral.com.
Does the voice call record me?
Nedral does not record or store your audio. Your browser turns speech into text, and only the text is sent to Nedral. See the voice note in the privacy section for browser-level processing.
Is Nedral approved by a health authority?
No. Nedral is a health information tool, not a regulated medical device. See the compliance status above.
